COSIGN 2001, the first international conference on Computational Semiotics for Games and New Media, took place on the 10th-12th September 2001 at CWI, Amsterdam.

This cross-disciplinary conference brought together over 60 computer scientists, HCI and AI practitioners, semioticians, narratologists, developers of virtual environments and autonomous virtual characters, new media practitioners, digital artists and performers with the aim of exploring the ways in which semiotics can be applied to creating and analysing computer-based media.

Keynote speakers at the conference were Ken Perlin and Arthur Elsenaar and Remko Scha.

The published proceedings for the conference are available for download in PDF format. Individual papers can also be downloaded from the same location.

The programme for the conference is also archived on this website. A link to this, and to the other COSIGN events, is available from the list on the right.
